Indomitable Collection, the latest publishing project from Fundación TW
INDOMITABLE is a collection of stories that brings to life the journeys of individuals who have left their mark on history through their vision and talent.
TW Foundation presents this editorial project as a tribute to timeless, universal values such as openness, respect, freedom, and honesty—the very foundations of TW Group’s leadership model.
Each volume begins with a children’s story and ends with a short, thematic biography written by experts, providing factual depth and historical accuracy.
Our aim with this collection is twofold: on one hand, to foster a love of reading and spark curiosity in children through the guidance of adults; and on the other, to promote critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper understanding of knowledge.
The first figure featured is Jerónimo de Ayanz (1553–1613, Guenduláin, Navarra)—poet, baritone, botanist, cosmographer, mining official, entrepreneur… and inventor of the steam engine, a century before the Industrial Revolution. His goal? To extract water from flooded mines. A practical problem-solver, he was granted the “privilege of invention” (a forerunner to modern patents) for 48 groundbreaking devices certified by experts—ranging from underground air purification systems and a self-contained diving suit, to a scientifically accurate precision scale.
“I’ve always seen Jerónimo de Ayanz as an engineer ahead of his time—his brilliance overshadowed by a lack of support to carry his inventions further. We created this storybook with the hope that his legacy will finally receive the recognition it deserves.”
—Carlos Llonis Irigoyen, President of TW Group
Ayanz will be followed by the biographies of other extraordinary figures from Navarre, such as Santiago Ramón y Cajal, Blanca of Navarre, Queen Toda, and Julián Gayarre, each volume supported by a well-known figure committed to championing their legacy. For this first edition, the patron is Antonio Catalán, founder of NH Hotels and President of AC Hotels by Marriott.
Technical collaboration: Public University of Navarra.
