Building the future through knowledge and culture: TW Foundation

The TW Foundation (TWF) was born in 2023 with the aim of promoting knowledge and culture as key tools to face the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s society. From its origins in Navarra, the birthplace of the TW Group industrial group, the Foundation projects its actions globally, guided by the values that have driven the growth of our group: respect, honesty and commitment to the environment.

First Publishing Project: Juan de Palafox

One of TWF’s first major projects was the publication of the book Juan de Palafox. Talento, pasión y compromiso, a work that pays tribute to an essential historical figure that unites two key cultures for TW Group: Navarra and Puebla de los Ángeles, in Mexico.

Juan de Palafox (1600, Fitero, Navarra), viceroy and bishop of Puebla, was a leader who stood out for his respect for people and his commitment to knowledge as a path to growth.

Among his most notable contributions, Palafox founded the first public library in America, the current Biblioteca Palafoxiana, and promoted the schooling of girls and communication in native languages, pioneering initiatives in his time.

The work, written by Professor Ricardo Fernández Gracia, director of the Chair of Navarrese Heritage and Art at the University of Navarra, includes unpublished documents and handwritten letters that provide a deeper insight into Palafox’s life and legacy.

This book has a foreword by Professor Jaime Cuadriello, from the Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), reinforcing the cultural and historical connection between Navarra and Puebla.

Editorial Recognition: Best Edited Books Award 2023

The book Juan de Palafox. Talento, pasión y compromiso has been awarded the Third Prize for the Best Edited Books in 2023 in the category of Bibliophilia, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.

This recognition values the aesthetic quality and craftsmanship of the edition, especially its parchment binding, made by the Cistercian nuns of the Royal Monastery of Santa Lucia in Zaragoza. The jury highlighted details such as the irregular edges, the handmade headpieces and the hand-painted spine.

In 2023, the Ministry of Culture awarded two other works in the Bibliophily category:

First prize: “A Picasso”, by Rafael Alberti and Felipe Alarcón Echenique. This work, with 9 poems by Alberti dedicated to Picasso, includes prints by Alarcón and a prologue by José Manuel Lucía Mejías. The jury highlighted the excellent combination of materials and the quality of the color engravings, as well as the use of high quality paper that enhances the work.

Second prize: “Domenico Ghirlandaio”, by Elena Poblete, with texts and engravings by El Mono de la Tinta. This book was highlighted for its contemporary adaptation, the use of antique tones and the quality of the intaglio engravings, reflecting an aesthetic connection between the classic and the modern.
