This collection is based on inspirational people who had the restlessness to delve deeper into things, the ingenuity to discover treasures in the everyday and the courage to promote critical thinking.

In our first title we present Jerónimo de Ayanz: poet, musician, cosmographer and inventor, who patented and used the steam engine 100 years before the industrial revolution.

I have always thought of Jerónimo de Ayanz as an engineer ahead of his time, whose genius remained in the shadows because he did not find the necessary support to transcend. We publish this story with the hope that his legacy will take its rightful place.

Patent steam engine

The Privilege of Invention was a legal instrument developed in Spain, from the end of the 15th century, to protect inventors, similar to today's patents. Philip III signed a patent in 1606 for a steam engine devised by Ayanz to dewater the mines. It is registered and filed in the Simancas castle (Valladolid, Spain).

The house where Jerónimo de Ayanz was born still stands majestically in the landscape of the Camino de Santiago, near the ascent to the Alto del Perdón. Although in a state of abandonment, its imposing presence allows us to imagine our hero imagining adventures and problem-solving inventions.
